You can find its fluroite crystals growing in the veins and cracks of rocks near geothermal activity.
The term "fluorescence" comes from this rock, as early experiments with ultra violet light caused this rock to glow! Although, not all specimens of fluorite glow under UV light; usually this only happens when some of the calcium has been replaced with a mineral like yttrium.
